Bhappie Sonie is one of the popular Hindi film producers and has also directed few films.
He started his career as an assisitant director to Raj Khosla with his film 'CID' (1956). The film was a runaway success. His first film as an independent director was 'Ek Phool Chaar Kaante' in 1960. This film too did fair business at the box-office.
As a director he gave many successful films in the 60’s. These included the Shammi Kapoor starrers 'Jaanwar' (1965) and 'Brahmachari' (1968). The music of these films was also a hit. In 1973 came 'Jheel Ke Us Paar' starring Dharmendra and Mumtaz which consolidated his position in the industry. 'Bade Dilwala' (1983) with Rishi Kapoor in the lead and 'Sasti Dulhan Mahenga Dulha' (1986) a social drama were also big hits in their times. These movies were his home productions.
He produced a few outside projects too in the 90’s like 'Khoon Ka Karz' (1991) and Nishchaiy (1992). However, both these films were box-office disasters. Even his directorial ventures like 'Tum Haseen Main Jawan' (1970), 'Jawan Mohabbat' (1971) and 'Chalta Purza' (1977) failed to garner audience interest.
He did not receive any awards during his career.
