Kapil Sharma is an Indian stand-up comedian and actor. He was the winner of the stand-up comedy reality series, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (Season 3) on STAR One, where he received huge acclaim for his stand-up comedy characters, Lala Roshan Lal and Shamsher Singh (the Punjab Police cop).
In 2010, he won the Comedy Circus's 2010 version, Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars and Comedy Circus Ka Jadoo. In 2011, he won Jubilee Comedy Circus in a tie with Krishna Abhishek - Rajiv Nigam, Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur. In 2012, he won Kahani Comedy Circus Ki in a tie with Krishna Abhishek - Sudesh Lehri on Sony Entertainment Television, partnering with Parvati Singhal, Shikha Singh, Ali Asgar, Shweta Tiwari, Sumona Chakravarti and others. In 2013, He was honoured with CNN-IBN Indian of the Year award in entertainment category.
In July 2013, he started and hosted a show " Comedy Nights with Kapil " . Comedy Nights with Kapil is an Indian comedy show that airs on Colors TV channel. The show is hosted by himself. The format of the show is mixed, with Sharma acting out skits on stage with supporting characters, while also interacting with members in the audience and the guest Navjot Singh Siddhu. Each episode features celebrity guest(s) who usually appear to promote their latest films and with whom actors interact in-character. The show is similar in context to the British show The Kumars at No. 42. After the conclusion of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, the show became India's highest rated serial in the non-fiction category garnering viewership rating greater than KBC and Big Boss. At CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards, Kapil Sharma was felicitated with Entertainer of the Year award for 2013 by Amol Palekar in recognition of his contribution to the show.
Kapil Sharma was born in a Punjabi Brahmin family in Amritsar, Punjab. His father was in the police force and mother was a housewife. He is from a Middle-class family. he was fond of acting and wanted to become an actor and comedian
Kapil Sharma started his career from Punjabi channel mh1 'hasde hasounde raho' but was second runner up.Then he participated in a comedy reality show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad (2008); where the contestants of Comedy Circus performed against contestants from Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He also co-hosted a comedy show Chhote Miyan (2008) with Juhi Parmar on Colors. In 2009, he joined the comedy reality show hans Baliye (STAR One), as a wild card entry with Bavneet Chatrath (also known as Ginni) as his partner. He also co-hosted the first Punjabi international film awards in Toronto in 2012.
He won Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and has worked on comedy show Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur with his partner Shweta Tiwari and won it. He is also a singer and was contestant in Star Ya Rockstar. He was a wild card entry and reached up to the final where he came second. He also won Kahani Comedy Circus Ki. In February 2013, Kapil Sharma was selected among top 100 celebrities in Forbes India magazines and he was ranked 96th in that list. His show "Comedy Nights with Kapil" became the biggest milestone of his career. In December 2013, Kapil Sharma was ranked 93rd in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list.
