Mira Nair, is an Indian Film director and producer based in New York. Born in Rourkela, Orissa Mira studied at Delhi University and Harward University.

Her debut film was 'Salaam Bombay', for which she won the Golden Cameran award at the Cannes Film Festival and also earned the nomination for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. She used the film to eastablish an organisation for street children, called the Salaam Balak Trust in India.

She has won a number of awards including National Film Award and various interanational film festival awards. She has been a nominee at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards and Filmfare Awards. She was awarded India's third highest civilian award the Padma Bhushan by president of India, Pratibha Patil.

Her most recent movies include 'Vanity Fair' with Reese Witherspoon, 'The Namesake' and 'Amelia'.
