Ranbir Kapoor was born in Mumbai to one of the cutest, and most romantic film pairs in the Hindi movie industry, Neetu and Rishi Kapoor. He shares his birthday with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and Yash Chopra. He was christened Ranbir by his granduncle Shammi Kapoor who thought of using the first name of Raj Kapoor, Ranbir for his grandson. On his birth, Raj Kapoor was sent a letter by his fan welcoming the birth of another actor into the family. Ranbir is the second child of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor. The romantic pair of the seventies tied the knot on January 25, 1980 and were blessed with two children, Riddhima and Ranbir. While Neetu Kapoor dotes on her son and calls him 'The Complete Man', Rishi is closer to his daughter, though in his own words, he loves his dogs more. Ranbir's parents affectionately call him baba.
Ranbir did his schooling at Bombay Scottish. He attended HR College before setting off to New York to pursue a course in acting and direction at Lee Strasberg Institute and School of Visual Arts where he made about 300 short films. He chose the school because of its "colorful website." In school, Ranbir barely managed to scrape through his classes, though he was the first male from the Kapoor family to graduate tenth grade. He was very good at football and even played at the district level.
Ranbir likes to watch Travel and Living in his spare time. His other pastimes include spending time with his family, friends and dogs, watching movies, playing on his Xbox and Playstation, playing football and randomly staring at the ceiling. Before joining the film industry in an actor's capacity, Ranbir increased his film knowledge by watching movies of stalwarts such as Guru Dutt and Mehboob Khan. Ranbir's favorite Bollywood actors are Rishi Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna and Kajol. His favorite Hollywood actors are Dustin Hoffman and Jennifer Connelly. His favorite movies are Shree 420 and Life is Beautiful. Ranbir's favorite scene is from Saawariya where Raj confesses his love to Lillypop.
Like every self-respecting Kapoor, Ranbir loves his food. He particularly enjoys Italian, Chinese and Ghar ka Khana. He prefers food made by his daadi, Krishna Kapoor to his mom's, particularly the biryanis and paayas. He is a strict non-vegetarian, however, he is forced to include vegetables in his diet. His favorite sabzi is bhindi and he hates tendli. As if his acting skills weren't enough to please people, he can also cook up a meal of scrambled eggs and passable keema.
After making his debut in Saawariya, Ranbir has been seen in films like Bachna Ae Haseeno, Luck By Chance, Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani, Rocket Singh, Rajneeti, Anjaana Anjaani, Rockstar and Barfi!. The actor was highly appreciated for his performance in Barfi! as a deaf and mute boy.
In 2013, he is seen in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' opposite ex-flame Deepika Padukone.
