Sanjay Mishra, stage-named Sanjai Mishra, is an Indian actor and comedian, best known for his character of Apple Singh, an "icon" used by ESPN Star Sports during the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
He made his film debut in the 1995 Indian musical film Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India, followed by Rajkumar (1996) and Satya (1998). Born in a rich upper cast family in Bihar, Sanjay's schooling happened in various places as his father, journalist Shambhu Nath Mishra would get frequent transfers. Sanjay joined the National School of Drama after completing his junior college studies, post which he starred in various commercials and acted in various cameo roles before his big break with Amitabh Bachchan in a Mirinda commercial. This accelerated his life to new heights. In an interview he once confessed that it was his father's affiliation with great musicians and actors that inspired him to follow suit!
Sanjay is a well known versatile personality and has a great fan following in India and Europe. His presence and talent on stage or on screen is exemplary. His releases like 'Zameen', 'Charas' and 'Plan' exhibit his talent. Though he has played various roles in films including a kidnapper, a criminal, a terrorist, etc., he is typecast as a comedian.
His television stint has been well appreciated, especially his roles in famous serials like Office Office, Ram Lakhawan, Public Sub Jaanti Hai and the Rajiv Mehra- directed LOC Serial. However Sanjay is best loved for his comic brilliance as portrayed by his recent releases including "Aloo Chaat", "All The Best" and "Dhamaal" all of which show that he is one of the top comedians of Hindi cinema. His role in 'Phas Gaye Re Obama' established him as a serious actor, although the movie was a serious comedy. His better known hits are 'Golmaal 3, 'All The Best', and 'Phas Gaye Re Obama'.
