Shilpa Shukla is a theater and Bollywood actress best known for her role of the Indian hockey player Bindiya Naik, in the sports-oriented movie `Chak De India`, starring Shahrukh Khan. She made her film debut with the critically acclaimed `Khamosh Pani` in 2003, followed by Sudhir Mishra's `Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi` also in 2003. Though popular acclaim came her way, when she played a negative role of Bindia Naik in Sharukh Khan starrer, `Chak De! India` in 2007, which got her a Filmfare Award nomination.
She started her acting career with eminent theatre director, Arvind Gaur of the Asmita Theatre Group, where she met her would be husband, the talent actor Mohit Tripathi. Her major plays are Mahesh Dattani's `Final Solutions` and `Tara`, Govind Deshpande's (GPD) `Antim Diwas`, Ashok Lal's `Ek Mamooli Aadmi`, Girish Karnad's `Rakt Kalyan` (Taledanda) and Neil Simon's `Log-Baag`. In 2009, she was a contestant in the Season 3 of `Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa`, an Indian version of ABC's reality dance competition show, `Dancing with the Stars`.
Born in Bihar and brought up in New Delhi, her brother Tenzin Priyadarshi (originally Priyadarshi Shukla) is a renowned monk and is currently the Buddhist Chaplain at MIT. She resides in Mumbai with her family.
