Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is renowned in the industry for making lavish and larger than life films which are high on grandeur and storyline at the same time. His previous films 'Devdas' and 'Ram-Leela' had all the elements crammed in them and proved to be blockbusters at the box office and his latest offering 'Bajirao Mastani' is no different. Well, but let's just analyze if this film manages to repeat the success of its predecessors or not.
'Bajirao Mastani' is the story of the legendary Maratha Peshwa Bajirao and his two wives Kashibai and Mastani. Ranveer Singh has played the role of Peshwa Bajirao, Priyanka Chopra has played Kashibai and Deepika Padukone has played the role of Bajirao's second wife Mastani. It depicts the legendary bravery, righteousness and valour of Peshwa Bajirao, his relationship with his two wives and also depicts what a fierce and unstoppable warrior he was having fought many battles and not having lost even one.
Coming to terms with the acting part, the three lead actors, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are in top form yet again. The three of them carry the film equally on their able shoulders and dish out top notch performances and I should say one of the best performances of their already illustrious careers. Ranveer Singh fits into the skin of the legendary Peshwa Bajirao flawlessly and dishes out one of the best performances in recent times. He is equally good in all the departments be it romance, battle sequences or drama, he is simply in top form and proves that he is one of the most promising actors we have in the industry today. Deepika Padukone carries out the role of Mastani with elan and manages to do full justice to her character and the same goes for Priyanka Chopra who has played the character of Kashibai. The supporting cast of Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Milind Soman and Aditya Pancholi too are adequate in their respective roles.
The cinematography of the film is commendable as it is visually captivating and has been shot with supreme expertise. Full justice has been done to the editing part as well, since despite being a period film, it still does not get stretchy at any point of time and has been aptly edited and manages to the keep the viewers hooked to their seats.
Out of the many songs in the film, the two tracks which stand out are 'Malhari' and 'Pinga'. Both the tracks are full of raw energy, captivating tunes and amazing dance choreography especially 'Malhari' in which Ranveer Singh simply sets the screen on fire with his oozing energy and stupendous dance steps. Rest of the tracks are strictly okay.
Anticipations and expectations were very high from 'Bajirao Mastani' as the audiences were expecting yet another visually stunning and larger than life spectacle from the filmmaker of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's calibre and fortunately, he does not let us down. 'Bajirao Mastani' is indeed one of his best ventures to date, it has all the elements crammed in it, be it drama, romance, action, you name it, the film has got it. Full marks to the entire team.
