Saali or not, Yeh Saali Zindagi Rocks!

Expect the Unexpected is what the synopsis of Sudhir Mishra's "Yeh Saali Zindagi" says and sure the film holds true to that. Sudhir Mishra outdoes himself again with this edge of the seat entertainer that will keep you glued to the silver screen even after the film wraps-up.

"Yeh Saali Zindagi" is a story of Arun (Irrfan Khan) who wants to save his love Priti (Chitrangada Singh) who is trying hard to save her love Shyam (Vipul Gupta), a minister's would-be Son-in-law from a group of gangsters. Meanwhile a small time crook Kuldeep (Arunoday Singh), threatened by his wife Shanti (Aditi Rao Hydari) to completely walk out on him, wants to leave the crime world forever and for that wants to collect enough money to leave the country with his wife and kid. Kuldeep kidnaps Shyam unknown to the fact that Shyam has broken ties with the Minister's daughter and the Minister now does not cares if Shyam lives or dies. The film is a combination of power packed performances, edgy dialogues, impeccable background score and flawless direction. The film runs at a very fast pace and is unpredictable, exactly how life is, when you know things will be smooth, it takes a U-turn. Irrfan Khan is one legend of an actor and proves that every moment he moves his lips to deliver a dialogue. Chitrangada fits the character with ease and takes you on a journey with her. Arunoday Singh is marvellous and talented. He is someone who will climb up the ladder pretty soon. Aditi Rao looked alluring and portrays immense talent. Even the supporting cast including Saurabh Shukla, Sushant Singh and Prashant Narayanan should be applauded. Nishat Khan's music and Swanand Kirkire's lyrics are well aligned with the theme of the film and aptly created.

Though the narrative is more or less linear and the storytelling has no parallel tracks, the editing follows as much erratic pattern as the writing, merging scenes beyond time and location boundaries. Sachin Krishnan's cinematography is impeccable. Indeed surplus characters and subplots often make. The film has all the ingredients for success and is definitely worth a watch.
