    11th December 2018

Rani Mukerji who was last seen in 'Hichki' as a Tourette syndrome victim had already bagged acclaim for her performance and the film was a commercial success as well. Now, the audiences are in for a treat as one of their favourite character Shivani Shivaji Roy played by Rani will be back on-screen, with her fearless bold nature again.

Yes, Rani Mukeji will be next seen in 'Mardaani 2' a crime-drama sequel to the 2014 hit film 'Mardaani'. The film will be bankrolled by her husband Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films, and it will be helmed by newcomer Gopi Puthram, who wrote the story of Mardaani.

"Mardaani is and will always be extremely close to my heart... Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can't wait to start shooting this film soon," Rani Mukerji said in a statement.

Mardaani (2014) was helmed by Pradeep Sarkar and had Tahir Raj Bhasin as the villain. Speaking about the antagonist from the sequel Rani said "Shivani's fight is against "pure evil." This time she will face a cold, merciless villain who has no empathy, no fear of God and is pure evil. The character has been written superbly and I'm excited to find out who the actor will be."

Yash Raj Films' twitter handle shared an official announcement with a full fledged statement about the sequel. 'Mardaani 2' starring Rani Mukerji as police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy is set to go on floors next year and will release in the second half of 2019.
