• Sushmita Sen receives 95 lakh compensation form Coca Cola

    Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen has a legal matter in favour of her by the income-tax appellate tribunal (ITAT) which solves income tax dispute cases, has announced the decision in the favour of the diva. A settlement compensation in the lieu of a sexual harassment case from 2003-04 against Coco Cola India in the subject of the employee of the company has been granted.

    While the bench has ruled that the compensatory amount received by Sushmita is non-taxable as it is not income but a 'capital receipt', which means that the 35 lakhs which were supposed to be deducted as tax is let off and Sen will receive a sum of 95 lakhs in total.    

    The 'Main Hoon Na' actress had signed a commercial contract with Coca-Cola India worth Rs 1.5 crore to promote its products. However, the deal was terminated prematurely after Sushmita accused one of Coca-Cola employees of sexual misconduct. But Sushmita called the termination "mala fide and dishonest" alleging that the soft drink giant was punishing her for speaking up. She legally sued the multi-national over its failure to provide her a safe workplace. As per the termination contract, Sen was provided 1.45 cr out of which 50 lakhs were taxed. However, the remaining 95 lakhs are compensation amount which won't be taxed
